Many town and city administrations are increasingly settings their sights on urban green spaces, realizing the immense benefits they can bring to urban areas and their inhabitants. Among the many, different problems that towns and cities face, the biggest include air pollution, global warming and the resulting extreme temperatures recorded both in winter and in summer. A solution to such problems comes from the creation of a layer of urban biodiversity, which can contribute significantly to improvements in environmental conditions in various ways, such as green roofs acting as sinks for CO2, the main gas responsible for climate change. Green spaces can also reduce the ambient temperature of cities.

Another great benefit of green roofs is an approximately 40% increase in the retention of rainwater and an approximately 18-minute delay in run-off, which helps prevent the overwhelming of urban drainage systems.

And then, who doesn’t like walking in a green park, cycling or reading a book in the shade of a tree? According to recent studies, towns and cities with multiple urban green spaces promote social cohesion and relations as meeting points for sharing and creating connections between inhabitants. This means that people who living in cities with more parks and gardens have a better quality of life than those who live surrounded by high levels of pollution.

Finally, aesthetics can also deeply affect the perception of city life. Decorating buildings with plants not only enriches the original architecture, but also creates an attractive space for people who spend many hours in such buildings, and helps stimulate creativity and encourage innovation.
