Irrigation

The English writer, physician and historian Thomas Fuller once said that, “We never know the worth of water till the well is dry”. Water is the principle matter of life, there being no life without water. Thus water and irrigation are an essential part of Spazio Verde’s projects, which employ the most sophisticated technologies to guarantee significant savings of the most precious resource for humankind, without altering in any way the value of the final result.

Spazio Verde installs various kinds of irrigation systems, including underground, drip and sub-irrigation technology.

Undergroundirrigation systems have concealed garden sprinklers. There are two different types with the same operating mechanism, in which a plastic body hides a piston that rises with the water pressure. The two types are:

  • Static sprinklers; 
  • Turbine sprinklers.

Both types are installed flush with the lawn level, making them practically invisible when not in use.
Static sprinklers are generally used for small to medium-sized lawns, while turbine sprinklers tend to be used for lawns where the range of the sprinkler jet has to be greater than 5 metres. To fully understand what is meant by range, just think of a circle with a sprinkler in its middle. The range is the radius of the circle, and, therefore, a sprinkler with a range of 5 metres will irrigate a diameter of 10 metres.

For hedges, vegetables, flowers, borders, trees and flowerbeds, drip irrigation is used instead. This uses a dripline, which is a tube with holes at equal distances along its entire length and small cylinders or channelled plates just before the holes that slow the flow of water causing it to drip. The dripline may be fairly light or heavy, depending on the thickness of the tube.

Drip irrigation is a smart and sure irrigation solution, which provides just the amount of water the plant needs, which is good not only for the plant but also for the environment. Indeed, with drip irrigation, you can programme the most suitable watering times and duration, in order to avoid any unnecessary water wastage.

 

Spazio Verde also designs and installs sub-irrigation systems, that is green space irrigation systems using underground driplines. This ensures the complete invisibility of the irrigation system, and distribution of the water directly to the plant’s roots.
